Charlie Vlk makes a good point. The min/max tolerance on the NMRA HO scale standards gauge is .025". If the track is .040" wider than even the NMRA minimum gauge, that's no reason to fault the code 88

Wax pressure packing plant in 1966. Household and commercial products
were shipped in URTX reefers and RBLs, including the JWAX
