I've been using black iron wire 14 mils in diameter (30 gage?)to
replace grab irons.
I bought a spool of it for >$3 from McMaster Carr.

Pennsy P-54
Has there ever been a P-54 commuter coach model made by a manufacturer? It
is a Pennsy suburban coach. The railroad I model, the MA & PA would rent them
for specials that they ran occassionally

always been some confusion about them because there were two series,
91000-91249 built in late 1947 and 91250-91499 built in
