For what its worth, I worked as a bean counting trainee at Union Carbide's Ferroalloy Smelter outside Marietta OH in 1966-67.
IIRC, the plant imported manganese ore from Ghana and Guyana

I can't tell you specifics about the CP fleet, but I can tell you that
ore and other raw materials had vastly different unit weights, causing
those RRs hauling a variety to go through a lot of

PFE 30 & 40 ton Underframes (Was Mather RTR Meat Reefers)
Dan Smith mentioned the needlebeams ( I think of them
as cross-bearers) as used by Red Caboose for the
Bettendorf Single beam 30 ton underframe. I am not
aware of splicing any of Terry Wegmann's parts

Photographic evidence in several places shows some of CP's series 375000 and 373000 ore cars fitted with permanent side extensions maybe 12-18" high. These cars were originally 50 ton

Jeff, We will keep your book a virgin. The 21's were both 30 and 40 ton cars
when rebuilt. The Wegman kit represents the R-21-40 car with a built up
underframe.
