Re: VGN yard
What interests me is the profusion of stock cars, not something with which one might ordinarily associate this penultimate purpose-built coal hauler. In all, a fascinating railroad.

Re: Sinclair Consolidated Oil image
Besides the two-dome car already noted, I am curious about the white
stripe around the domes of the cars in the first row, and what the gons
on the adjacent track might be for.
regards,
Andy

Re: VGN yard
Elden, why do you think that's not coal? I mean, it's not nice shiny black diamonds, but OTOH, a
lot of coal was essentially 'combustible dirt.'

Re: Wabash LCL
Hi Chet,
Nemah oats is a familiar name. I believe my father planted that brand.
With corn grown for seed, the seed corn company contracts with local farmers at the beginning of the planting season

Re: VGN yard
Looks like coal to me, although a lot of it appears to be un-screened
"mine run" coal. That's what coal looked like before the advent of
"long wall" mining.

Interesting photo! Did anyone else note that the cars do not appear to
be loaded with coal? I wonder what the story was?
