Bet the knuckle dissapeared when someone got one in the yard and
didn't want to "fess up" or make a trip to the RIP for a replacement.

Are you SURE you worked for a railroad <VBG>? Of course crews USUALLY
replaced knuckles, but on occaision they did not for a variety of reasons.

I have never seen a car go ti the rip track for a knuckle. The train crews always replaced it. Other wise you have to chain it up to get it to the rip track.

Missed that <G>! That however doesn't mean that it is a stationary
shed... coupler knuckles were a dime a dozen. The circumstances could
range from the car being dropped on a RIP track to get that

Schuyler, 4 of the 8 cars have KC brakes which indicates
they may be not correct for your era of the 1950's. For example
the SP B-50-12's were rebuilt into all-steel cars by 1950.

I would say that the car hasn't been moved in a few days, as the wheel
treads are rusty, but to assume that it is stationary and cannot be moved
seems a bit a of stretch. It is still equipped
