There are 72 points to a (prototype) inch. Keep in mind that the point size does NOT tell you the height of letters. It was originally the height of the metal type piece on which the letter

This is my approach - YMMV.
Wheels -
I took some foam and made a custom hole saw from some brass tube to
put lots of holes in the foam. I put the wheelsets into this 'honeycomb'
and airbrush them

The T&P also used "marker paddles" since the kerosene marker lights kept disappearing. They quit using them in the 1960s after a disasterous accident and then went to electrical lamps. So

Thank you for the recollection. Grew up next to B&A, and never noticed these paddles in the late 50's; so a cost measure might well be the answer. Still, a very odd item.

Grab iron clearance
Roof grabs, specifically.
For a very long time, I've set grab irons mostly by eye, and if there were a group of them, such as
on a corner ladder, I'd use a spacer to get them all the same, at least
