Tim - Many years ago we had a fire in our house that damaged quite a number of carousels worth of slides. Scorch, water and ash damage. I unmounted them, washed them and remounted them. Results

Although very expensive just a couple of years ago, archival quality cds
and dvds are now being used by museums such as the one in Kennesaw and
others interested in preserving scans of photos of steam

They were stored in Kodak carousels in their original boxes. I have to
assume that dust got on the slides when there were projected. The carousels

distilled water, but can you wash the slides or negatives?

Note that Al Rose's slides which were damaged by dust in the emulsion were
all Kodakchrome. Possibly if he had dusted the slide trays regularly, he
won't have had any damage over time. I sure that it

colors and hadn't shifted to red?
