I have 5 or 6 of these and agree with your assessment. I think the ladders can be easily replaced by Des Plaines parts - which are much finer. Someone pointed out the lettering errors - in

From the 50's right up to the present day a number of roads, including the
CB&Q, sent all their used crankcase oil to a company called "Motor Oils
Refining" located in McCook IL on the C&IW.

extra care because they seem to be a little more delicate than, say,

My solution is to make my own from single-core 'bell' wire.
I use the core, so strip the insulation off, crush the last mm or so of
one end flat with pliers (that's the coupling part of the hose)
