Re: Modeling aluminum sheathing on boxcars
C&O aluminum box and hopper cars of the post-WW2 era were left oxidized. However, the black stenciling got a clear coat of varnish.

Tony,
Now that I think about it, I remember local a newspaper (Hinton?) referencing the C&O's first steel HBGs in 1901 or so as "battlestip coal cars" that had to be segregated to avoid "destroying"

Rich,
Do you have any idea where/when the very catchy "current modeler's term" battleship gons came about? Did the Virginian or N&W actually use that description in any advertisements, annual

I would say C&NW green w/ a wee bit of yellow added. Or start w/
Pullman Green and add C&NW green to it... But then, I don't model
brand new cars for the most part.

the Rich Yoder site) of the Type 7. I believe it to have been

Thank you for the link. TKM is a very nice magazine. And the photos
in the latest issue show some very nice modelling work, too.

I can add that the Santa Fe had a few Type 7s inherited from the
Kansas City, Mexico & Orient which survived in company fuel service
(but not revenue service) long enough to have been equipped

aluminum tanks, tank linings, insulation, acid domes, dome

Any recommendations for Minneapolis & St. Louis boxcar green?
I have a 1937 boxcar ready to paint plus Greg Komar's excellent dry
transfers, what your guys recommendations for a M&StL green for the

Thanks - Charlie

Re: ACF type 7 "high walkway" tank cars - AB brakes
W&R made 1, 2 and 4 dome cars with AB brakes. They represent
Northern Pacific cars in company service in the 1950's and 1960's.
The cars came with NP decals.

Re: ACF type 7 "high walkway" tank cars - AB brakes
Steve,
By "one of these", do you mean a type 7 with AB brakes? Who made that model? Or a is your model the W&R brass model with K brakes? If it is the later, then the answer is a unequivocal no
