Charlie,
I'm probably at the root of this mystery. I've made two visits to
the U of Akron Archives in the last year. I'm searching for info to
support an article I'm developing about the end user

M&StL 1958 cu. ft. Covered Hoppers
In 1953 the M&StL had two groups of 1958 cu. ft. covered hoppers. One group of 50 cars
numbered 70101 - 70199 and the other group of 10 cars numbered 70051 - 70069. Both
car number groups were odd

Re: Hart Convertible Ballast cars...
Jack, I have a photo of a Santa Fe Ga-K class car built in 1902 which
might be something similar to the YV cars. It's attached.

Tim,
Ah! Yes I see the bolts and retainer. I remember seeing these on SAL and ACL cars years ago. I didn't know their use was limited to those roads.
But what about other Barber S-2 roller bearing

Garth, these particular trucks were unique to ACL/SCL/SBD/CSXT.
Note the unusual horizontal retainer bolts beneath the journal.

Are you sure about the Barber S-2 roller bearing trucks being too new for us? When did the Barber trucks come into use? ASF A-3 roller bearing trucks were in use in the early 1950s, and

New Kadee trucks
I saw and played with the new Kadee trucks at TrainFest in Milwaukee
and they are very nice but they were a modern roller bearing. (Too
modern for this group) They do eliminate the "see-through"
