The only D&H USRA cars with roof hatches, etc. that I know of were
used in loco sand service. There is a photo in a Hudson Coal book on
anthracite that shows one of their standard 36' double sheathed

Chuck, do you know if any of the D&H single sheathed cars
modified with bottom outlets (e.g. Tichy USRA kit) was ever
used in anthracite service? I think the cars were assigned
normally to bulk cement

I only actually saw anthracite coal loaded in a DL&W stock car once; it was probably during WW2. The car had the spaces between the slats boarded up and the car was lettered "for coal loading
