Re: hide loading only...
I believe that 5th Ave Car Shops included decals "For Hide Loading" with their 6-panel single sheath Milwaukee box cars. Decals are not available separately.

Thank you much for your reply. Do you have photos available that reveal the construction and assembly of your wheelsets?

Mather Stock Cars
I have a few P2K Mather stock cars with Mather reporting marks. The kits give the option of open or closed end slats. What would be correct for these cars?
Thanks,
David Karkoski

Brian,
Our wheelsets are machined from brass bar stock. The wheels and axles are pressed together with a plastic insulator on one wheel.

I'm hoping someone here possesses this knowledge. . . .
From what materials are freight car wheelsets made? I imagine different methods of insulating are used depending on manufacturer, but a

I have to give Intermountain credit -- they're going to do a
modified 70 ton flat even before the standard flat is released.

Are any of the announced bulkhead flats (B&O/NYC/EL) accurate?
They are modified 53'6" AAR 70 ton flat cars.

The AC&Y had several XM's assigned to hide service. I've seen photos of some that were stenciled "Hide loading only". The last two around that I'm aware of were parked near the Akron, OH freight

Given the congregation of MOW ditchers on flats shown, the date (1936) and the significant amount of weed growth that appears around/ under the flat cars, these look like they fit a recent thread

Re: Santa Fe ice reefer on the move....
Joe -
Many thanks! I have visited that museum back in the early 1990's but did not see the ATSF reefer. Did measure parts of the SP C-9 2-8-0, however. Guess I'll have to plan a return trip.

Check out the May 2004 RMC, Ted Cullotta had a very good catalog of HO freight car trucks and who had at that time the best models of them. This was a side bar to his Essential Freight Cars
