Re: shipping kits
Ed,
I've been shipping models now many years now using the mail exclusively.
I find the rates fair and the delivery times quite acceptable, even to Europe from Canada.

Re: The Atlas USRA steel rebuild. Again.
While I was mainly looking at N scale, I never saw a 10 panel version of
this car from Atlas, can you point to a reference?

Re: Reading ques.
Assume by round center springs you mean the sideframes had round holes for the springs? These are Taylor trucks that were used on a few gondola cars and class MXu box cars and tried on 2 bay hoppers.

Re: Railshop Carbon Black Car ?
If I'm not mistaken there are pictures of these cars in the Kalmbach reprint of the 1941CBC.
Carbon black is very fluffy (i.e. few lbs./cu ft.) and significant amount gets lost when it's packed in

Reading ques.
Guyz,
I bought 2 pair of the round center spring package trucks for a Reading project; then promptly lost my notes. Do any Reading modelers have the short list of cars so equipped? Thanks in advance

Ben,
I got so involved in precisely wording my question as if I were a lawyer or something that I got off track.

Red Ball produced an HO model of a Carbon Black covered hopper c. 1941 ff. From this slim piece of evidence, I would presume the prototypes arose in the '30s sometime.

It's been a while, but not that long Armand! I think the RPI kits
appeared around 1990 - 20 years ago (more or less).

Cars of this design have been photographed in service as recently
as 2000 (10 years ago), e.g. CABX 350089. This indicates they were
built over a longer period than most freight cars, perhaps 25+
