Mike,
Thank you for the free runner confirmation. I will plan to add one of these cars to my modest freight car fleet.

There are three photos on page 58 of Billboard Refrigerator Cars. Two are opposite sides of the same car from 1925, the third is from 1935.

Re: Monon
Bill,
Yes, those were free running general service boxcars.
However, some 50 footers with this scheme seem to have been in assigned service between the RCA factories in Monticello and Bloomington

I strongly agree that powdered Teflon is an outstanding lubricant. Much cleaner than graphite in all applications.

Stalking PFE Reefers
The comment below was in response to a discussion about per diem rates on the CB&Q Group. I believe Tony Thompson has mentioned PFE's need to gather their reefers, also.

Tim,
Thanks for the response. Yes. Most likely in assigned service.
My question was more about the Monon box cars with the lettering scheme seen in this photo from the Fallen Flags web site.

I've carefully sanded down Kadee's high bolster plastic trucks so that they ride at the proper height. Even with the split bolster it is possible.
