Being I'm in the paint business, the biggest influencer honestly is the lighting above your work.
Lumens and color will alter most. Some of the lights will totally change the look.

It’s all in good to say just pick any color, but to be close you have to have a color to start from and a recommendation of that color is helpful. I for one ask for color recommendations as you

Also a crude drawing of the Erie

In reality l don't think locomotives got displayed in parks because their flanges were deep and detail a mite clunky. The big CN loco in Sarnia Ontario certainly has authentic wheels and bolt heads.

Wow! Quite a "mystery"! Thanks everyone.
I haven't gotten the time yet to take it apart. It might be surprising on the interior.

Note that Tim's photos show that these cars were built with Commonwealth cast steel bottoms, which have a corrugated cross section.

Great underside photo.
Appears to have three bottom outlets so must be a three-compartment car.

It has taken awhile to break my OCD adherence to exactness, but I fully embrace that concept now to the point of making it a point to paint batches of cars just a little off from each other, as I did

It's amazingly frustrating because there seems to be no color photographs of these tank cars !! Builder photos appear
to be either yellow, a light gray, or 'artificial aluminum'

This is a question that comes up frequently from modelers of all railroads. My advice is close is good enough. When you look at prototype photos of any railroad, one always sees a variety of shades

I contacted Jeff last night about working on 3D printing some IC gons. He sent me some info. If anyone has more drawings or photos they could send me off list that would be great.

Ed Hawkins recommends using TruColor MKT Freight Car Brown as the correct match for the MP cars. TCP-188. The later red hue didn’t come until the early 1960’s.
