Re: SP 36' Harriman stock car
PFE reefers of the same tonnage rating have various underframes.
A Bettendorf underframe has a single tall I-beam while the "builtup"
underframes had shorter twin beams. I think R-30-13's originally

I don't think so. The car in the photo has neither the Mather patent roof nor the round rod stock sill steps that Mather tended to use on everything.

SP 36' Harriman stock car
Are there any photos of these on line?
I am building the excellent Westerfield kit.
Is the underframe similar to a PFE R-30-13, considering one is 36' & the other is 40' ?

Re: Geared hand brake with vertical shaft
I do not remember being involved with any hand brake with Red Caboose except the Superior 566. I have provided some amount of hand brake information to a number of manufacturers over the years but

This is a photo scan of a negative I shared with Al Westerfieldabout
23 or 24 years ago... it shows this type of hand brake on a WRXreefer
in Colorado, circa

Re: Geared hand brake with vertical shaft
Gene Green had something to do with these being produced. I don't recall
the details, but he's a resident here, and maybe he can explain it all

Re: Geared hand brake with vertical shaft
The P2k Mather boxcars had the Klasing geared horizontal handbrake; I've raided several for Branchline ACF 40ft reefers where the prototypes used them. Dave Sieber, Reno NV

Re: Geared hand brake with vertical shaft
I think a model of this hand brake was included in the Red Caboose Mather36 foot reefer kit.
Also, I think it may have been included in some of the Westerfield ACF 40foot reefer kits.
