Re: 1950’s Freight Car Color Guide Vol 1 Boxcars
Having made the remark on weathering it’s interesting how many images in the book are boxcars that aren’t heavily weathered with just a few chalk marks. The boxcars are relatively clean. Perhaps

The post person just delivered my copy of the new book from Morning Sun. I was happy to see the authors stayed with pre1960 photographs. I was hoping this book would answer visually what color

Re: Latest project from the Southern Piedmont shops DT&I USRA rebuild with Climax radial roof No 11799
An alternative is to encourage Pierre to issue more basic body types in resin kits through Yarmouth. Not flea market cheap but an alternative to IM's apparent lack of commitment to the kit building

They are two different bodies from different prototypes. The Red Caboose is a PRR X 29 which, with a few modifications, can be made into a credible 1923 ARA boxcar. The Tichy is a 9'-2' or 9'-4" IH

Fenton & Rich,
Can you comment on the preference for a Tichy body versus Red Caboose X29? Just availability?

Yes, I believe Andy Carlson will be selling the roofs. Perhaps he can be talked into the mini kit.
I have copied Andy on the response so you can contact him

Fenton,
I had been considering doing this car using the Tichy with an Accurail underframe, but couldn't figure out how to do the roof. I have a weakness for these quirky rebuilds, and have a W&LE

Thanks for that info, Mike.
That is another use I heard for the rebuilds. Similar usage to the PRR’s “Campbell Soup” cars in class X54.
Thanks!

I thinkt the DT&I cars were rebuilt as insulated boxcars for Campbell's Soup out of Napoleon, OH. Some were sold to the GB&W for dried blood service.

Earl;
You are correct that drawings don't necessarily reflect stringers, but sometimes, yes.
Can't answer to pre-war additions or wooden stringer adds.
Drawing for X29B shows none, and that is as

Did (some of?) the plug door cars end up in newsprint service? I seem to recall that, but not 300 cars, right?

Thanks Charlie. I've seen prototype photos where it looked like the shop that did the stenciling didn't have the correct font so they shot what they had. I kinda liked the look
