One more Q: were these metal roof from zinc or maybe galvanized zinc? I sometimes see bare metal on roofs with remains of paint but no rust. Were they metal roofs, they would've shown rust.

I have been using the Scale Shops on 1/4" scale etched ladder stiles without any problems. Some of the problems may be related to the width of the etched slot on the backside of the stile. If

In the PFE book by Thompson, Church, and Jones on page 12 there is a side photo of the roof and on page 86 there is an overhead photo of half of the roof, just showing the battens above the door. It

Bill , I am modeling one that was converted to corn cob service. The drop doors were sealed and the drop mechanisms removed. This was probably done much later than your modeling period.
