PanPastel Weathering Sets: Preferred Storage Thereof
UPS delivered (I love brown) PanPastel "Rust & Earth" and "Greys, Grime & Soot" Weathering Sets yesterday. They are beautifully and usefully packaged. Mainly it appears that since there is only one

Freight Cars in Context
I’m enjoying the book too.
On my wish list: other photos showing ends of the various car series shownin the book, and modelling tips.

Freight Cars in Context
My copy arrived today and it is a very interesting book, though the Foxtrucks on MStL 4296 was unexpected! On page 18, the DL&W 45401 is infront of what appears to be an ice house with 5 upper doors.

Re: Speedwitch's "Freight Cars in Context" Mystery
Gene, I'll tell you that I'm not convinced it's Union, Iowa either, if it's any consolation to you. Way
to many ifs in this thing at this point? Yes, thoughts about the depot being rebuilt or changed

Good, but I personally think that if the OP had a mill or drill press with an cross slide vise (http://www.amazon.com/Cross-Slide-Drill-Milling-Machine/dp/B001FGAJTA) he wouldn't be asking this

Re: Loading scrap iron into freight cars. Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
And to add to John's note, ATSF composite 40' gons in that time period would be a Caswell design, or Caswell "cousins" Ga20 & Ga22's. None of those could ever be mistaken for a USRA design. Santa

Re: Layout lines on Styrene
Scott
Round holes suggest you're trying to replicate a Morton pattern brake platform, and the #80 drill size suggests HO. Have you seen the Plano Model products etched Morton walkway kits?

Re: Digest Number 8972
Hi Scott,
I have a mill/drill with a vise. I'd put the
styrene in the vise and use the x+y of the
vise to position the drill ... and drill without
ever scribing and with no hand positioning.

Re: Loading scrap iron into freight cars. Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
SLSF makes sense to me as I read the last two letters of the reporting mark as SF and the # 510(3/8)0. The ATSF 51040-51999 series were stock cars in the 43 ORER.

Re: Loading scrap iron into freight cars. Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
Barely possible, but it's far more likely that this is one of the SLSF's 1926 clones in the 50399-51927 series. By the beginning of 1939, the Wheeling had (according to the ORERs) rebuilt all of their

Re: Loading scrap iron into freight cars. Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
It looks like a USRA Composite gon. Based on that assumption (always dangerous) and a road number of 51180 that would make the car W&LE.

Hi List Members,
Anyone have any thoughts on the road name for this one? I cannot make it out, perhaps someone will recognize the gon construction as being specific to some one
