Re: Final Wash For Flat Car Decks
Bill,
I used to use India Ink for washes but have switched to acrylics for all washes -
except on actual wood (structures, etc.). I find the acrylic washes work better
(for me) on brass or plastic.

Re: headlight operation on Spectrum non-DCC 4-6-0
I am not familiar with this locomotive but I’m not sure I have ever heard of a DC engine with an ON/OFF for the headlight. If I had to guess I’d say it is much more likely to be a burned out bulb.

headlight operation on Spectrum non-DCC 4-6-0
I have a Spectrum 4-6-0 (non-DCC) and while I can get it to run, I don't know how to switch on the headlight. What do I need to do to turn on/off the headlight?

Charlie, the photos I have of NWX 6000 series are both in gray.
The color photos I have appear to show green hardware (hinges, ladders, etc., including underframe) as in this photo. Yes, wrong

Re: Help with Northwestern green/yellow reefer
Looking thru my NWX pictures, some DID have brake steps, like this example. All of the cars with steel ends also had them (again, my photos).
Thanks!

And you're right - the lack thereof gives us a chance to admire the freight cars longer...

I used 70% isopropyl alcohol. The ratio of ink to alcohol depends upon how dark you want the weathering. Mix 1 part ink to 9 parts alcohol, and dilute from there accordingly.

Alcohol. Buy a pine of alcohol, use an eyedropper to add some India ink, and you have it.

Final Wash For Flat Car Decks
Some time ago thinned India Ink was a recommended final wash for weathering flat car decks. Does anyone recall what was used to thin the ink?

The A-50-16 had a welded underframe.
If you are not going to model the underbody accurately and need something just to go under it nicely.....
I would use the Accurail Steel underframe. It

I’m using the PE ladders that Westerfield makes for the X23. He also makes a set for the R7 reefer. The X23 set are five rungs whereas the R7 set is six rungs.
