Re: USRA Twin hoppers - Roster & longevity
The James Lane roster of original USRA twins is in Railroad History #128. Copies were built from 1920 to 1928 or so, when most railroads shifted to offset-side hoppers or their own homegrown designs.

Re: USRA Twin hoppers - Roster & longevity
The USRA twin bay hopper was basically a riveted, rib-sided car with 8 panels, having a 50 to 55 ton capacity. They were about 34' long, 10' wide and stood about 10' 6", top of rail to top of car

Dennis,
I see what you mean. For what it's worth RDGcontinued to use the "X-29" lap roof arrangement on their version of the AAR1937 design, class XMv, and several related classes of auto cars.

Good morning Jim:
This would be easier would it not with the InterMountain version of the 1937 design because there would be no pesky ends to remove. Whichever way you go, think "Pattern" when working

I've seen sideframes like this in a couple of photos -- There
are small holes on either side of the bolster. Brian, or anyone,
know more about these
