Steve, the reasoning you give per the CN makes much sense.
However regarding the Pennsy.....

Re: Intermountain Modified 1937 AAR Boxcar
I hope the monogram(hearld) used on the Southern box is not the one being
used on the actual model. It is really bad for the 1937 monogram.

It would help if you described how the cars were derailing -

on turnouts?
only when coupled to other stockcars?
When backing at the head/tail of a long string?

Jim Mischke has sent me photos of a Superior door used as a replacement on B&O M-26 (X29 style) cars. I know a batch of CGW cars were sold and leased back with these same doors.
Question is: Did any

The Jaunary 1953 ORER shows CN as having 70,441 box and automobile cars. When 17,000 CN cars were offline, this represents almost 25% of that fleet unavailable to CN. This was a bone of contention

would help. Richard H. had a way of filling with
stryofoam popcorn to simulate sheep and these could
have lead in them.

Re: Intermountain Stock Cars
Check the weight. They should weigh around 3.75 oz. Other than that, check
the wheel gauge and coupler heights. My guess is that they're too light and
a string of them would be prone to derailments.

Re: Intermountain Stock Cars
Are they lighter than other 40' cars that run well? Have you checked to see
if the trucks pivot and rock properly? Low couplers?
LOTS of things to look at.
Thanks!
