Mark,
As you have already found out you need 2-56 nuts and screws/bolts of
various lengths. If you buy them in brass or nylon, you could get them 1 1/2
inches long and easily cut them to length.

They also tended to swap numbers around for no apparent reason. The 10000-64999 series cars do NOT seem to be the same as the 60000-60399 or even the 60000-60999 cars that pop up in the GARX listings

These reefers are a tad more complicated than you think!
The cars were originally NKP 60000-60399, built by MDT in late 1922. They seem to be most similar in construction to NYC
