September 12-15 in Seattle may be too late on your visit schedule, but the National NG meet ( www.seattle2012.com ) starting then in Seattle would certainly meet your layout visit wants.

Samuel,
You may want to join the model railroads of southern california group, they have regularly scheduled layout tours and i suspect you would get several invitations there.

I've live in a couple "steam era" houses and can tell you that the structural lumber used in both of them was NOT finished. The floor joists in my current house, visible in my layout room are 2x10's

Used and abused 40' gons
Hi Guys!
I'm looking for an on line source of pictures of used and abused 40' gons, you know, where the sides are all whopperjawed and they are sway backed. Any load and any road. Any suggestions?
