John,
According to info in Freight Cars Journal No. 63, a small number of gons, classed GB-12, were outfitted with ten Youngstown Steel Door 145 cf containers for limestone, silica and other items

SP had some calcium carbide container cars. The containers
were cylindrical, and closed. I don't know if the stuff was
powdered, or in a slurry form. Anyone know?

ADMIN: Taxes = OFF TOPIC
Do I really need to remind the membership that Taxes are OFF TOPIC for STMFC? Apparently, I do.
Folks, the discussion of taxes is OFF TOPIC for STMFC.

Actually, Massachusetts has a law that says anything mail-ordered out-of-state you have to pay the sales tax. It does not require the retailer to do it unless they have an operation in the state.

I should have added that this gon is coupled to an as-built version to the left of the car.

Tim and all,
I have just found out that Walthers has purchased a location in CA. This presents in CA requires them to charge CA tax (to CA residents) and probably maintain the high cost records

Steve,
Thanks, for a very complete history of these cars. I thought they may
have been former GS gondolas, but I wasn't sure. The Milwaukee Road had
a fleet of 48'-6" GS gondolas among others.

A couple of observations...
1. we're way off topic here (and I'm about to dig the hole a bit deeper,

2. loosely accusing a company of tax fraud is beyond the pale. There is

I think California law may be different. I doubt Walthers is
