Re: CNW 1946 GATC boxcar help
The only picture I've noticed was in Railmodel Journal, October 1999,
C&NW #143380. The article is from Ed Hawkins and includes appliances
information (e.g. type of running boards).

Re: tank car retainer valve placement
Thanks Richard,
Train Shed Cyclopedia #12 shows type 27 cars with the valve as you indicated. So I guess I will fabricate a mounting bracket and mount the valve on the diagonal frame member.

Re: CNW 1946 GATC boxcar help
Tim,
I don't know precisely when the change took place, but CNW box cars
built by AC&F in 1942 had sides & ends painted Wardway or Glidden
Synthetic Paint and roofs painted Sherwin-Williams Reddish

Re: Reefers with "RD" reporting mark!?
Brian is correct. "RD" was a very common abbreviation in conductor's
train books, interchange records, and other documents for "SFRD," and
the numbers above are all valid SFRD numbers.

Re: Reefers with "RD" reporting mark!?
I guess this maybe plausible but there are entrees for SFRD. I have not had time to check the car numbers however.
The RD #'s are 14425, 3535, 8681, 14296, 9459, 31979, 7549. 10385, 31100,
