Re: C&BT Santa Fe reefer question -- error in book
Keith, you probably already noticed but there is an error
on page 233 of the SFRD ice reefer book -- the Rr-35 series
is listed as 7029-7058 but it should be 7029-7358. I knew
something was wrong

Richard,
Excellent! I'm sure you are right. Some entries for similar destinations in the list use "meat products". Probably depended on who typed up the entries. Fuel dealers have the same sort of

Re: IRC War Emergency Boxcars
In fact, the doors on the Santa Fe cars weren't unique; they were the
same composite doors (corrugated steel lower, wood upper) that were
applied to the Alton cars, which in 1947 went to the GM&O.

Tim,
Pretty good calculating in "today's dollars" considering that the current circulars say that the railroads absorb the first $300.00 for reciprocal switch charges. These are posted on all current

Re: Delano color photo
Ed,
So, you're not content with the hot air being expended over reciprocal switching eh? <VBG>.
Sure looks like a pair of dirty <GASP>, weathered orange PFE reefers to me.
BTW, here's a link so

Tim,
Interestingly, the real odd version?were the Northern Pacific war emergency cars, which Sunshine did do. Abeit, with the wrong underframe.

Delano color photo
Someone (Gene Deimling?) downloaded a classic Delano photo showing the
roofs of some C&NW house cars.
Look at those reefers on the right side of the photo. Doesn't that
round herald look like it's on

The Wabash car sides were somewhat different than the other
owners. I assume that's why Sunshine never did them. And I
think the ATSF cars had unique doors. Did you notice if the
test shots were all

$35 in 1950 is equivalent to $314.53 today. That was a pretty
hefty charge for spotting a freight car.
