Re: SLRX 25034
You are correct it is SRLX. I had sent a second message that corrected the typo. Blamed it on my mouse.
As for the paint color… That has been bothering me since I pulled the slide out of the file

Thanks for the paint suggestion. The photo of 6858 is the puzzler. If, as you suggest, the cars were painted for a lessee, then why is 6858 painted that way, without markings for the lessee? I

For all the other NWX cars, the grey side scheme is perfect for my era (and I have at least one). However, for these specific cars, which are the SnT project car, that scheme is clearly not

Doug,
Nice, but alas, none of these cars represent the scheme I am asking about. The car that I am modeling was built for NWX in 1940 and ultimately transferred to NADX circa 1950 and then leased to

I think Kadee cars are ABS plastic. Decals don't stick to them very well. Would use some sort of gloss coat.

Let the color debate begin. Here are various color photos of NADX meat reefers, most are Hormel. Two taken by Jim Sands, one by Soph Marty.

Bill I think that is SRLX, not SLRX. Two different companies.
And the SRLX reefer was painted a bright aluminum color.

Re: North Western Refrigerator Line color
There's a section on NWX cars in Gene Green's Color Guide. According to Gene, the yellow and green paint scheme was introduced in 1953. There's also a picture of a car in the grey scheme in 1960.

There is an article about NWX reefers in the Dec. 1988 issue of RMC that includes some color photos of this paint scheme.

Decaling Kadee cars.
I have some undecorated Kadee hoppers to decal. They are nice glossy black directly from Kadee. Has anybody detailed directly onto a Kadee car or do you coat it with future first for a gloss surface ?

I'm guessing the Eastman Chemical tank cars were assigned to Tennessee Eastman in Kingsport. Was there another Eastman Chemical location back in the day?
