SGL,
Thanks so much. Great timing! Gives us a good feeling as to the progress from in the mid to late-teens when they would disassemble Model Ts for better packing density in box cars.

Re: Why 3 domes on Jones & Laughlin coal tar tank cars?
Mark,
Close observation of these J&L cars indicates that only the center dome had a manway, unlike the brass model, and the resin model that, ahem, makes the same mistakes ;^) This would indicate

Re: Iron
If the pig iron left Birmingham on the Frisco, the Frisco could have
ran it to Memphis. From there the IC would have gone to Chicago.
Just a guess.

Re: Decal dilemma with Cu. Capy.
Precisely what I would suggest, except I'd use wet'n'dry paper, with a little water. I suspect that
when you sand through the clear coat, the decal will get all mushy and sort of scrape/wipe off.

Re: Decal dilemma with Cu. Capy.
Dean,
I'd experiment with a VERY fine sanding stick to sand away the offending decal. Glue a circle of 600 grit or finer wet/dry sandpaper to a wooden dowel with a 45 deg angle cut. Good luck.

Re: Dupont tank car
Does anyone know if this paint scheme ever appear on 11,000 gal
pressurized tank cars? I seen many photos of this paint scheme on
smaller ~6,000 gallon cars.
Thanks,
