least two Depression-era equipment purges. At least half of their 38 foot DS

Yes. Both Chicago-Cleveland (Vulcan) and Union Metal Products (Murphy) made corrugated ends with the corrugations pressed both inward and outward. Outward corrugations outnumbered inward ones in

horizontally corrugated ends called "Vulcan", and vertically and
horizontally corrugated ends called "Murphy". What about inward vs

Yeah... the first reference I found to a "Vulcan end" was a comment
regarding it being "almost indistinguishable from" a Murphy end (IIRC) of
some sort - this was on the Rensselaer site. So initially

Well, I don't think so. The cars involved were CB&Q 100ton hoppers built
by Bethlehem Steel in '63 and '64. Something in my brain connects the dots
with lube intervals but it's been a long time

Thanks for those tidbits of info.
Completely nothing? I know in later years the P&N's non-interchanged cars
were listed in the ORER, but perhaps in 1941 none of the online-use cars
were listed?

I made a mistake! WLE was a separate road from NKP when the photo in
the Kline/Culotta book was taken (1947). You are correct - the
composite cars and the ugly panel side cars are both NKP

That story is a new one on me, and looking at Larry and Ted's book
I'm not sure which cars you mean. Neither of the W&LE hoppers shown
has panel sides. NKP 32000-32149 have broad panel
