Re: Looking for restored FGE reefer in the Pacific northwest?? ex-PM
Bill Welch kindly refers to the "restored FGE reefer at the [California State Railroad Museum]".
This fine 1924 ice wood reefer 35832 never actually needed "restoring" in the usual sense, and in fact

Al,
Well that's a start. I do not have that book. Let's try
another approach. If I wanted to buy a model of that
truck what would I be buying?

Shine, "NP Color Pictorial, vol 1", p 110, shows NP 51248, partly
behind a W-3 Mikado the photographer for some reason was interested
in. :-) The gondola's truck is nicely lit though the shot isn't

Re: What to do?
Clark,
If your search for a prototype for the stock car fails you can always take it off its trucks and place it in a barn yard and use it for a corn crib. Seriously, stock cars and wood

All,
Am looking for a photo of one of the NP 51000-51499 series
of drop bottom gons, AC&F built in 1929.
They had trucks cast by ASF. Design is shown as:

Re: Brake step dimensions
That looks to be just fine. Was doing some drawing
sorting. NP 35652 is for:
NP 4700-4999 = 50'6" 100M Box
NP 84000-84188 = Double Deck Stock
NP 14000-14499 = 40'0" 80M box
The width is 28 1/2",

Re: Sugar refining in New York City
Tim,
I'm pretty sure the Domino refinery in the NY Times article was not served by rail. I've seen Jack Frost 3 bay PS-2's in the BEDT (Brooklyn Eastern District Terminal) yard several blocks north.

The photo is probably from around 1975, given that the bridge visible in
the background was built

Sugar refining in New York City
Somewhat tangental to STMFC but I thought this might interest a few
folks -- that NYC was at one time a major refiner of sugar. This is a story
about the ASR (Domino) refinery in Brooklyn. I wonder if

Re: ore cars
They are strictly a PRR car. So they are only good for the PRR, PC and CR. And too new for this list.

That is the worst place it could be. Almost every thing they have at Snoqualmie is a pile of rust or a pile of trash.

Bill,
It's suppose to be at the railroad museum at Snoqualmie, WA. FGEX #16134. I don't know if it was ever restored.
