Looking through the various posts listing freight car construction restrictions, I can only find one reference to the ends of boxcars, that being a recommendation in 1914 (or 1916) that steel ends

Seattle 1945 data
Hi Dave,
I wonder if that data tells you anything about CPR traffic headed north/south into and out of B.C - a traffic pattern I am only wanting to learn about but have next to nothing on?

Dean, you're confusing the MDC Class X (MDC model) with the AC&F Type 11. The Sunset brass model has its shortcomings but it's currently the only model of the Type 11 in HO scale and can be reworked
