Re: Aluminum Freight Cars....was....Ships vs freight cars
Didn't the Great Northern also have some aluminum box cars. Right now I cannot recall how many, but it was not very many. Perhaps they were built in the St. Cloud shops.

Denny,
For what purpose do you use 0.500" - 0.900" axle length?
In confirmation what you say about the contra-intuitive finding that
sometimes quite short lengths with lotza endplay give the best

Correct. I have photos of ex-Mather cars with NISX reporting marks still in revenue service even in the late 1960s.

Re: Detail of AAR 1937 boxcar - Murphy and Hutchins Roofs
Be advised that the aforementioned table in MM has too many errors and omissions to list
here. My data show that only the 13500-13999 series ribbed-side cars built in 1937 had
Hutchins Welded roofs.

Re: C&S, NKP steel boxcar details
Apex Tri-Lok.
Ajax.
The NKP diagram sheet says 2/1948.
It doesn't appear so. The only photos I have of these cars new is of 6816
(built later in 1948) and that car has BCR ends and roof.
Hope this

Re: BLI vs. Walthers express reefers
That's useful information, because Walthers' original announcement of the express reefers showed only the later scheme with diamond REA emblems, which those of us who model the 1940s can't
