Drop grabs (was:wood side steel cars)
An interesting observation. I always though drop grabs were used when the
grab could also serve as a foot hold. The drop prevented one's foot from
sliding off the end. Since the grabs on the left

No. The IW of the standard 1925 ARA box cars was ~ 8'7", with slight variances of an inch or so, depending upon the road. Thhe GN cars had an IW listed as 9'2".

No, the Ertl car that I am familiar with is a low side gon and these are a bit higher. Also, the Ertl car (which I bought also) has a indented side sill which does not match the ACL

You're not pouring molten iron into the molds, you're pouring molten steel into the ingot molds. Molten iron comes from the blast furnace. The iron is tapped and flows into iron ladle cars which are
