Re: Ingot molds for gondola loads
An addendum to what I just sent. Ingots for a slab mill were teemed into
molds that were on average ~ 96" X 54" X 30" inches and weighed ~ 20 tons.
Wouldn't take many to reach a gondola's load

Not sure what era you're modeling, but during the 50s, when most steel was
teemed into ingots, the molds were made of cast iron. They weathered a dark
rust color very quickly from the heat of molten

Dean, based on the info I received last night I took a pass on the RC GS
gon. I did pick up a few P2k Mather stock cars, GN, and B&O for my 1957
layout. I got plenty of abuse from my fellow club

CB&Q GS-1 & 2 rebuild train line placement
Anyone have specifics on where the train line was located on these cars? I
am working on a rebuilt car but probably the train line ran in the same
location as an un-rebuilt car.
TIA,
Tom

Ingot molds for gondola loads
All:
Any idea what color ingot molds are? I am guessing they are made of
refractory type cement so a white to tan brown color? My photos I am
working from are black and white...
Thanks-

Well, that's waht it is to be "on line". I think I have a slide taken from
a bridge with an LV ingot mold loading.
The last new cars the LV bought before becoming part of CR were for this
