Re: How was (or is) salt transported?
Unprocessed salt (right out of the mine) was tranported in both covered and uncovered hoppers and boxcars with paper liners.
Processed salt usually in bags, barrels, or boxes for wholesale/retail

This came up someplace before, and I was able to order a VHS copy of it.
Typical 1930's melodrama, with a lot of Milwaukee Road action.
A quick Google found

This may be a bit off topic, but I am told there are lots of great freight car shots in a movie called "Danger Lights" from about 1937. I also understand that it has some good operating sequences, but

I am wondering how salt would have been transported during the era
our group discusses. Given the corrosive nature was it carried in

Re: Da Costa's PFE book
Phil DaCosta has re-released the PFE book. It is substantially the same
material as in the earlier release but he has added a nice selection of
PFE and non-PFE refrigerator car photographs.

You should see his LAST film: The Railrodder, shot on the Canadian National
with the Canadian Film Board. A silent movie with sound effect soundtrack,
it's priceless.
