I have not seen any late 50's photos of R-30-9's with r/w/b UP shield
but that does not mean they didn't exist. There were still 700 cars in
service in 1959... But if they existed, there probably were

As I was trimming decals I noticed that there were apparently two styles of B&W UP shields. My photo of PFE 98444 (a 30-9 by Will Whittaker) with a built up underframe

They are certainly R-30-9 (or R-40-9) and were probably in interchange
service. PFE did continue to use revenue car numbers when cars were used
for ice service (NOT "company ice" in the usual sense,

I was just reading an old article on ARA 1932 cars by Martin Lofton. He said
this type of car sat higher because of the underframe. So, the running board was
attached as close to the roof as possible
