Actually, my staff has been cleaning up several cells in the Moderate Jail for new occupants. Looks like we’ll need about 10. I have to admit that I was startled at the appearance of some of the old vict…uh..occupants [ although I will admit that some have rather lengthy beards and are difficult to recognize]. I also note that they all seem to be squealing “I love steam, I love steam” with their weak voices.

Oh well..

Calling the BLI hermaphrodite a proper NW2 is not to be done in polite company.  I am sure the Walthers model will be a great improvement.  And hopefully the beginning of a line of several phases of NW2s, all of which moved > freightcars < throughout their long careers.

Charlie, the never done before was in reference to the PA’s mentioned, not the NW-2 phase 5. I was just tacking on the E-5 in HO plastic, which has never been done either.

The NW-2 Ph 5 is not a never done before model.   The Broadway Limited NW-2 is a Phase 5.  Also, BLI tooled the larger radiator making it a  SW-7 Ph I and with the tooled small front window cab a SW-7 Ph II.

Maybe we can combine those with the PA-3 (PA-2?) that's never been made by Walthers or anyone else in plastic.

Hi Lester,,

PRR modelers each have their own formula for freight car color.  Historically, FCC was more like barn red in the 20's and then became more like iron oxide in the 30's, ultimately becoming a rich reddish-brown color in the 50's.  I model 1951, and I use Scalecoat oxide with several drops of caboose red added.  It would not be unbelievable for the containers to be a more faded version of the FCC on the

flat car.

I am about to move a resin Funaro & Camerlengo container Flat Car kit 8120 to the paint shop.  The instructions for the car body state Scalecoat PRR Freight Red, a  red moving toward maroon, to my eyes when viewing paint chips.   I am guessing containers, DD1A, the same color.  Is this correct?

Actually, that Roseman book was published by the publisher of Model RailroadING, I think Highland Station.

It was a reprint of a series of articles in Model Railroading. It took a while, but I did manage to find a decent copy at a decent price on fleabay, and I am glad to have it. I also have the Wilson book.

Hi Nelson,

I have two of Kato's NW-2''s that were repainted for Boston & Maine units. Both of these are excellent models.
Since Kato has already offered a version you like that is a swell running model why not try to convince Kato to
offer it again both with and without DCC & sound rather than take a chance on Walthers doing something right?

Cordially, Don Valentine

I don’t know much about PRR FCC. What’s the paint recommendation for say 1950 PRR FCC?

All-

Another off-topic post that has to be refuted….

The BLI PA in both HO and N specifically had the grills done in etched brass so the Farr-Air grille of the late PA-2 could be modeled.  It was one of the tools that was surrendered by BLI in the MTH deal and I don’t know if the HO Farr-Air version has been released by them.
