Re: F.G.E.X. Refrigerator build

Andrew, Thanks. As has been pointed out by a couple members I'm "living in the past" with my resin car experience. Indeed my experience was in the earlier years with flat kits by Westerfield and F&C and they were just not suitable for me. I just had a hard time and they shattered and were just sot of nasty things. I haven't tried any since then and obviously it's a shame as I've limited my freight car roster. The resin companies offer so many unique and interesting cars. I had one fellow that was building cars for me and that somehow stopped. So maybe with all the good information I've been getting I may try some resin cars. I also seem to remember guys saying the earlier resins also were difficult to make paint adhere to. I guess the new polyurethene material has cured that issue too. Roger Huber Deer Creek Locomotive Works

Hello Roger. We use polyurethane resin to make all of our castings. Brittle is not a word that I would use with polyurethane. Polyurethane compares to styrene in many ways but must be glued with ACC. Thank you, Andrew Dahm westerfieldmodels@...

Thanks, Bill. That was about my last experience with resin cars and I filed them away under the "never again" category! Way back I tried a Westerfield and an F&C and it was frustrating to say the least. I have heard they were much more user friendly now. Unfortunately the past experience was so poor it has kept me from having some very unique rolling stock. I'm still not convinced I want to spend the money on them and experiment myself.
I had a very good builder but he got his feelings hurt or something and so that avenue is closed, I guess. Maybe I can find another builder who can produce quality work for me. Does anyone know of a builder who can assemble resin cars without large sloppy glue deposits and have things aligned straight and true?

I think there are names of builders on the Westerfield website and Pierre Oliver who hangs out here is an excellent custom/commercial builder. He can be found here: http://www.elgincarshops.com/

Re: Tangent GA Tank Car
Jim Ogden
The Humble tank car should have a blue outline outside the red logo if it’s supposed to be a car repainted between 1935 and 1945. This can be easily added with a decal if it gets under my skin too much.
After the Second World War Humble changed this to the familiar white oval with a blue outline and red lettering to resemble the other Standard Oil of New Jersey properties such as Esso. (Standard Oil of New Jersey owned 50% of Humble since 1919 and bought the rest circa 1959). Jim Ogden Fort Worth, TX

Re: resin allergy?
Chuck Cover
Group,
I recently started an older Sunshine Kit #11.1 and the kit contains what looks like the newer resin sides, roof etc., however, the floor is a yellowish material that has a very solvent-like odor. I don’t seem to have any allergy to this older resin, but it does irritate my eyes so I have several questions:
Any other comments are welcome. Thanks
