Peacock Estate Auction
Keith Jordan
To All,
The late Frank Peacock’s Estate has been consigned for auction with Stout Auctions of Indiana. The auction will take place Thursday, June 16th. You can view the lots here:
http://www.stoutauctions.com/?p=2021
In Frank’s estate, there are over 600 pieces of brass, over 1000 resin kits, and over 1700 plastic kits! Frank’s interests were not only in the railroads of the Southwest, but the Northwest and Southeast, too; steam, Diesel and of course, freight cars, and in three scales: O/P48, HO and S! The auction includes many parts and tools.
Stout’s website includes instructions for viewing and bidding. Please take a look. If you have other questions, you may contact me ckjordan at kc dot rr dot com. I will only respond to questions off list.
Please excuse the cross-posting of this notice to several lists.

That Intercolonial box car is interesting. But it’s 1915.

When was the rule/guideline established to ship Canadian cars back empty? We’ve discussed it many times but I don’t recall seeing a starting date.

“Just another” Duckworth masterpiece! How do you do it EVERY times!? I would love to know how you scribe into the sides the plastic that remains after you cut off the cast ladder rungs.

Re: Santa Reefer Help
Ed Hawkins
Lester, The following info comes from a santa fe diagram for class Rr, 1,500 cars in series 31656-33155, built new as Rr-W in 1920-1921. The diagram refers to another Rr-23 diagram that denotes the cars were modernized from 1954-1959 with Camel sliding flush doors, Improved Dreadnaught ends, Preco fans, a “metal” running board, and a few other details. For the Rr-23 cars rebuilt with swing doors, all cars received an Ajax hand brake & 33” 700 lb. single plate chilled wheels (cast iron). The diagram doesn’t specify the type of running boards or brake steps. A photo of SFRD 32143, last reweighed 9-50, shows a wood running board. It’s the right side of the car with the system map but doesn’t provide a view of the brake step. Trucks on 32143 are AAR double truss spring plankless. Hope this provides what is needed for your modeling. The photo from Bob’s Photo was taken by Col. Chet McCoid on 11/2/54 at San Diego. Regards, Ed Hawkins

An additional MKT wood sheathed box car resource is a Steve Hedlund blog post from a few years ago. He reviews several MKT lettering changes that can be used as time markers in our modeling efforts.

Not sure which series the MKT car is, but Ray’s notes at Eric’s site should include length of service:

Re: Accurail MKT 36’ boxcar here’s and article with brown washes
I’d read this article on building and weathering a white reefer and ordered a bottle of Vallejo Brown wash to see how I could weather my own light colored cars. While Jim doesn’t go into detail I watched a few YouTube videos on how to apply washes. Plus there’s others on how to make your own using acrylic paint, water and alcohol which obviously is much cheaper. I’ve always used oils for pin washes but this adds another method. https://myp48.wordpress.com/2020/03/06/modeling-a-beauty-from-jim-zwernemann/ https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=1i61SlfOD34 Charlie Duckworth Omaha, Ne. |
