Sheet lead is easier to get in Califonia than in Ohio. It's not used for roofing around here. I got mine from McMaster-Carr direct. Sent from my little plastic pop tart

Re: **OOPS** 70-Ton Trucks
I apologize -- I was mistaken -- gray matter deterioration. :-( I was thinking of the old Stewart (now Bowser) ASF A-3 truck that was tooled for their 70 ton open hoppers !! The Intermountain truck is indeed a Barber spring-plank 70 ton truck with ride control wedges !! And it comes with the 70 ton flat cars and ACF 1958 cuft covered hopper kits. Many, many years ago I bought about 50 pairs of the Stewarts and split the order with a few people on STMFC or the old FCL I forget which. At that time you couldn't buy them separately so I got them direct -- at full retail too. (Stewart took no prisoners.) It's a little bit squashed looking but not too bad -- I was looking at the much newer IRC truck and thought I was looking at an ASF A-3 -- Yes I'm tellin' ya the old gray matter ain't what it used to be. True. I should not have said "floor," but "underside of the car," which was the location I have used for weight.
Two answers: (a) it's a better detailed car, and (b) I built mine cars before there WAS a Red Caboose car. But anyone who has a DA car, and wishes it to be other than a "display case queen" has to figure out how to weight it. My way is pretty invisible and yields a heavier car than the white-metal doors. D&RGW drop bottom gons - Red Caboose
Ted Waterhouse
Got a message re. the D&RGW "Flying Rio Grande" scheme on drop-bottom gons and accidentally deleted it before I could answer. I Wanted to say thanks for the detailed info. Actually, it was the Red Caboose model in that paint scheme I was wondering about. I'm hoping to complete the DA kits as SP cars (if only I can find decals) as I'm aiming to model SP's Jawbone branch in 1953. I've seen photos including D&RGW drop-bottoms on that line however and Andy Carlson had offered a couple of the Red Caboose RTR cars in that scheme. Do you know anything about the accuracy of these models vis-a-vis D&RGW classes? Thanks, Ted Waterhouse

Re: 70-Ton Trucks for F&C 50-Ft Steel Mill Gon-HELP
Scott H. Haycock
My mistake on misreading the trucks in Richard's PDF. On a hunch, I looked at an Intermountain 70t flat car I have, and its trucks match the photo in Richard's PDF of the truck in question. Maybe the trucks can be sourced from that car? Scott Haycock May I offer one more comment? The IMRC 70-ton, while having a spring plank, has wedge ride stabilizers visible in the bolster ends. Though superficially an ASF trait, it lacks the large, pronounced lower spring support which some call the "Ubangy lip". Perhaps it is a Barber truck??????? -Andy Carlson Ojai CA
