I would question one item for 1957. "Trucks w / intergrally-cast journal boxes required in interchange."
If so, how does one explain roller bearing trucks? Brian Leppert Carson City, NV |

Photo: Poultry Car NHX 6000 A photo from the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania, courtesy of Jerry Peck Description: “Poultry car NHX No. 6000, built in 1933 by the American Car & Foundry Company and used on the Delaware Lackawanna & Western Railroad. Poultry cars were, at one time, a profitable endeavor for the railroads and their suppliers. They hauled all manner of live domestic fowl, primarily chickens, but they could also haul ducks, geese, pigeons and turkeys.” Notice the word “Barr” over the car door. Many of the poultry cars had individual names. Bob Chaparro Moderator Railway Bull Shippers Group |

Charlie,
I'll bet you a doughnut that Mike at K4 decals will do a custom set of placards for us. He did the Rock Island single-sheathed box car set for Steve Hile and I in less than a week, and just published he B&O M-58 set for Fenton/Bruce/Me in about two weeks. Can I send him an e-mail tonight with these images and a few more and ask if he can do something? Or if you have the time and want to do it sooner--Mike Hood at mike@.... I have a few more placard images at home I can send you/him tonight. it would be awfully cool to get a steam-era set published, with all the different color ones too. John Golden |

Fascinating photograph of loading the Roma Wine car... I have often wondered about these, and did not know that there were the large vats inside of the cars.

Robert Allan
Microscale set 87-975 targets 1945-1970 placards. I believe the hazmat placards were upgraded to the current format after that.

Another view of the same machine is attached. Sorry, but I didn't note the origin of the photo. It was in a collection about constructing the Coulee Dam in Washington with the same 2 photos (machine and NP boxcar) as above.

Re: Burn Baby Burn

I understand that this is the STEAM era group, but a few years ago the UP had a couple of wrecked box cars at the east end of the Garrett Yard in Arlington, Tx. set off the tracks. They were cut up by UP crews. It took about a week for a crew of 4 to cut them up. Unfortunately, I didn't take any photos. Bummer.
Garrett Yard was built to service the GM Assembly plant in Arlington. I worked nearby, so drove past the yard 2x per day. CRZ |

Model: CDLX Refrigerator Car 297
Model: CDLX Refrigerator Car 297 I recently attended the Pacific Coast Region/National Model Railroad Association "Return To The Redwoods" Convention in Rohnert Park, CA. Some of you may have read my post, “The Amazing Odyssey of CDLX (Former PFE) Refrigerator Car 297”, and you are aware that Accurail made an HO scale car for the PCR Convention. Below is the Accurail model heavily modified by David Turner. David did the research on this car for the Convention and wanted a personal model that was closer to the prototype. He replaced the fish belly under frame with a scratch-built straight center sill, added the correct KC brake gear and rigging, removed the ice hatch covers and running board laterals, and replaced these with covers as on the prototype.
