metal cars filler-a quick and easy method
Andy Carlson
I have shared this following technique many times before on this list, but the ease, perfection in results and simplicity need to be mentioned again. If the hole to be plugged is in a smooth cylinder area, simply stretching Scotch Tape over the opening, making sure that it is taut, will allow backfilling with epoxy (I recommend J.B.Weld original). I use a toothpick to get to the corners, which will be visible through the tape, making for a plug which is ready for primer and color after peeling off the tape. Witness marks are very difficult to detect. More time almost in removing the adhesive left behind from the tape (I use my thumb in a rubbing motion). This technique will be found useful in many ways (Pluging a caboose window opening). J.B. Weld is available at EVERY auto parts stores and big box hardware stores. -Andy

What is the base metal? They make a variety of solders, including for white metal. So that might be an option. But. Milliput is a 2 part epoxy putty, which has fine grain. That'd likely be my choice if you can get inside. Goosh it on from inside, then file the outside flush. If you can get inside, I guess I'd try the brass screw trick. Hold it in with solder or CA, then file flush. |

I did a review of the Rail Shop PRR H30 model in the PRRT&HS publication TKM No.78, Autumn 2011, which included some construction photos. I have now built 2, they are nice kits. Photo of finished cars on the layout are attached.

Re: ATSF BX-11 model
I recommended this car and the related website to Rapido about five months ago. The documentation is very good.
Seems like something that has a ready market. Bob Chaparro Hemet, CA |

When I have purchased a couple of Clark’s offerings I have told him that he can keep the Kadee couplers as I use Sergents and would just be tossing the Kadees. Better that they go to another use than the trash can.

I would solder or epoxy a piece of shim stock to the inside of the car before adding the putty. |

Years ago I learned from Paul Jansen to tap and put a screw in the hole. Then cut and file to shape. This applied primarily to brass locomotives, but the concept applies to any medium. Bill Pardie Sent from my Verizon, Samsung Galaxy smartphone |

Maybe eBay and buy a replacement car if it’s that important to you.

Or if you can get inside solder metal to the inside of the hole and fill the viewing side of the hole with bondo and sand and refill and repeat till it disappears Just my thoughts Fenton On Oct 4, 2021, at 4:41 PM, Ray Hutchison <rayhutchison2@...> wrote:

Choosing a coupler for a item you plan to sell is tough. I refer Kadee scale head style. Others prefer the old standby #5. Some like to trim the trip wire, others like it. I forgot to add uncoupling levers so I'll paint the spring while I'm at it. |

No. Any of the boxcar colors would work but Scalecoat CP boxcar brown/red is the best.

Hello,
Please, excuse the cross posting. Would Tru-Color TCP113 CP Tuscan work for these models from Funaro? Not a CP expert by any stretch.
