I'm going to stick with my original view. I enlarged the photo considerably and I see a line below each of the horizontal rivet rows that seems to be the bottom of the steel sheet. The vertical lines of rivets secure the side sheets to the internal framing structure of the car. On a riveted-side car these would be present regardless of the orientation of the side sheets. What I don't see are any vertical seams that would indicate seams between vertical side sheets.

I don’t think those are horizontal sheets, just horizontal lines.  Note the vertical rows of rivets, and the lack of an edge horizontally that would be there if they were horizontal sheets.

I agree that they are sometimes not as sharp, but on a weathered model I think they may look even a bit better than the hi-res ones.

Variety and thickness are plusses -- great to have K4 as an option.

The “board” looks to be welded at the bottom and isn’t wood (or maybe it was sufficient to rivet it at the top edge only).

Hi Bob and List Members,

I do note the letter "O" to the left of the road number. Also, the presence of the heap shield on the end construction made me think C&O.

So I looked a little more, and the car in your link bears a strong resemblance to the C&O gon at the link below...

There are some deltas, but there is certainly more similarity than difference.

So it might be reasonable to guess that the car in your link is C&O 13133

Judging by the possible hinges at the A end for the full end door this is a GN42900-42999 series car.

Car is C&O 13133, a gondola they picked up secondhand from River Coal Co. in 1909. The peaked ends are original, and quite uncommon for a car built in 1905.

Hi Bob and List Members,

I have this image on my computer hard disk, along with some extra info. This makes me think we may have discussed this image before. Here is what I have...

NYC 329127 40ft gon series 328000-329499 ex LSMS 51000-52499 Lot LS86 1500 1920 Rex Chain Belt Company of Milwaukee WI

You can get to a native resolution version of this image with the link below. Altho the built-in online viewer will allow you to blow the image up further to have more pixels, it is really just pixilating and blurring the image more and not giving you anything new...

Hi Bob and List members,

GN had 50ft Howe truss design auto boxcars, and also had 50ft Pratt truss design auto boxcars. This is an example of the Pratt truss design

What caught my eye about this photo was that the car’s initials and number were stenciled on a board instead of directly on the car end. Perhaps the end rib design made that necessary.

Thanks to those who continue to provide photos of these cars.

I’d be very tempted to model the FINX car just for the reporting marks!!

A couple more pickle car photos that Phil Shuster sent me about fifteen years ago. Both were taken in 1961.

The first (FINX 203) was taken in Lakeview, Michigan, on the C&O's former Pere Marquette, near the center of the lower peninsula.

The second, a Squire Dingee car (SDX 119) was taken at the C&O yard in Saginaw. It is coupled to a double-sheathed USRA boxcar now in company service.

No Western Refrigerator Tank line listed
There is a Western Refrigerator Despatch - all reefers with meat rails
a Wilcox Tank Line - turpentine

These were the only ones that looks possible
