In regards to the photo mentioned in David Leider’s pickle book, it is on page 61. It is car 116 and the photo is from 1947.
The reporting marks for Squire Dingee are SDX.

Square jewelry wire is the only source I have seen, and only down to 24 gauge (0.020"):

No, sorry, I've never seen square wire. I have music wire from SmallParts
as small as 0.009
Small Parts makes really tiny T and L section brass so I'm surprised ifthey
don't sell square brass
