I use privet (Ligustrum ovalifolium) from my garden, cut to size and nuke it for 1 to 1.5 minutes in the microwave.

I asked Dan about it.
The wood is from WILLOW branches. It is cut to 12" (?) lengths and allowed
to dry out in a jar for a year (I think that's what Dan said), in an upright
and straight

OK. The biggest problem with scribed material is the grooves are V shaped, and the boards on single sheathed cars are not.

Dennis, Haven't done any N scale modeling in a few years - got to a point where it was getting hard to see (and hold!) the parts. My layout is HO scale. Was seriously considering building this car

Having scratch built many British wagons (freight cars ) the easiest way is to start with a plain sheet of styrene and using an Ofla cutter and a square just scribe the planking in its easy
