I think those inboard most stakes are actually holding the load together. Note what appears to be cables or something going under/between the layers of poles, connecting to what are probably stakes on

I loved that load when it was first posted. The reason that the stake is not attached to the car is that the load has to PIVOT on the car! I LOVE that the pivot is a lot <G>

The cost of old RP cycs is not a a great analogy! <G>. For Ted (or anyone else) to produce a book, there needs to be demand on the order of 1500-3000 copies. OTOH, for the price to be driven

I'm not sure how early in the war it got started but there was a lot of recycle efforts during WW2.
Scrap iron, tin pots, even down to kitchen grease according to my grandmother.
