As a W.A.G., I would guess repairs done with green or wet wood preventing
paint adhesion. At least we know it wasn't caused by rust or wet air in the
airbrush.

No, Gary. You are correct. The MARK reporting marks were owned by Mather, but used on Mather reefers leased to Armour in the early 50’s. Mather had several reporting marks, which I believe they used

I need to edit and crop them first. I somehow picked up a light flare on acouple as well.

Steadily the LOC is upgrading their scans of this collection to very large files. It is worthwhile to log on occasionally to see if favorites have been upgraded.

What I wrote may have been misleading. The MARX reporting marks were assigned to Mather; but on the Mather page in the Jan 54 ORER, they were listed as being used on Armour cars.
