If you have cars with the earlier blackened wheels. the issue is not wit the wheels but rather the axles. Those wheels used plastic axles, the later (shiny) ones had metal axles. The metal

railroads added second grabs to most of their older cars in the
mid-1930s, some cars still had only single grabs a decade

The last time I talked to Ted, I think he had gone back to
work (regular job) and he has much less time for Speedwitch
than before. Hopefully I will see him at Springfield in a
couple of weeks.

MP general arrangement drawings were revised in June 1932 adding a
second grab for those cars built before this date having a single grab.
