Guys,
The National Archive collection is very wide ranging in terms of dates.
There are a lot of pre 1900 shots, especially of passenger cars. I recall one
box contained dozens of LS&MS truss

Jason, another possibility you should consider is one of the Red
Caboose 42' flat cars, which - though most of the multitude of RC P/L
schemes are bogus - are dead-on accurate for the NYC lot

Thank you for the information on the flats and the boxes. I was going to add a couple of PRR FM flats to the roster for some mine machinery and some lumber but might need to rethink that.

The X31B cars were either be in assigned service for autoparts, or in general service. In 1942, the car would likely have been labeled "AUTOMOBILES" regardless, but would not have had the

I met Stan Grace, the last owner of Grace Tank Car Lines, and copied his photo album.
The cars you list are not in the album.
As the cars owned by Grace were mostly used/rebuilt cars it is not safe
